Chapter 6: Mamas, Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Housewives
No woman who is working a “regular job” has the flexibility of a stay-at-home mom. She must fit everything around the dictates of that job. When she does her laundry. When she eats her meals. When she can spend time with her children. And usually her family receives the leftovers of her emotions, time, physical stamina, and creativeness at the end of the day.
It was worth having less to spend more time with my children when they were young and to be available when they are older. To take the time on a sunny, warm spring day to go for a walk and enjoy God’s creation, stopping to watch ticks and throw rocks in the river. Being home to see the “kill” when the hunter returns with his first deer, antelope, or elk. Oh, yes, and to listen to the story about the hunt. These are precious price-less times.
Being a stay-at-home wife is not about doing all the work yourself, though there may be seasons you do all or none, it is about having your heart in tune with what God’s design is for your home and faithful diligence in obeying Him. It is fulfilling the desires and dreams of your husband for his home.
