Please enjoy a visit. . . somewhere else.
Often I find a new blog or website to peruse by checking out a link on a site or blog I frequently visit.
Here are a few I've been keeping up with lately:
gnowfglins
A great place for traditional food information!
rural-revolution.com
From a rural, prepper, homeschooling, do-it-yourself viewpoint.
paratusfamiliablog.com
Another rural, homsechooling, prepper family. I've tried several of her recipes and they are great.

Freebie: A Mother's Guide to Herbal Extracts
Last week was my Azure Standard order week. I took a minute to see what was in their "Book" category before pushing the submit button. There are often some free brochures on topics like GMO's.
This time it listed a book, A Mother's Guide to Herbal Extracts, by Kathy Garber. The sub-title is Saving Tristan. I selected it figuring it was a small booklet.
Well was I surprised! The print copy has 123 pages. Kathy started researching herbal remedies to help Tristan, her small son, over 12 years ago. Her book is very straight-forward. Giving insights into herb usage for many common family medical issues.
Her research and results resulted in the formation of Mountain Meadow Herbs. A company based in Montana that offers many of her herbal extract formulations.
The Garber family as gone on to form The William and Lydia Foundation to help fight world-wide malaria. Donations and sale of the book are helping this endeavor.
To receive a copy go to the bottom of the menu column on Mountain Meadow Herbs or request one with your next Azure order. (E-versions are also available.) There is a limited number of print copies.

Mom's Musings
| Gods of the Copybook Headings by Rudyard Kipling | |||||||
|
AS I PASS through my incarnations in every age and race, I make my proper prostrations to the Gods of the Market Place. Peering through reverent fingers I watch them flourish and fall, And the Gods of the Copybook Headings, I notice, outlast them all. We were living in trees when they met us. They showed us each in turn That Water would certainly wet us, as Fire would certainly burn: But we found them lacking in Uplift, Vision and Breadth of Mind, So we left them to teach the Gorillas while we followed the March of Mankind. We moved as the Spirit listed. They never altered their pace, Being neither cloud nor wind-borne like the Gods of the Market Place, But they always caught up with our progress, and presently word would come That a tribe had been wiped off its icefield, or the lights had gone out in Rome. With the Hopes that our World is built on they were utterly out of touch, They denied that the Moon was Stilton; they denied she was even Dutch; They denied that Wishes were Horses; they denied that a Pig had Wings; So we worshipped the Gods of the Market Who promised these beautiful things. When the Cambrian measures were forming, They promised perpetual peace. They swore, if we gave them our weapons, that the wars of the tribes would cease. But when we disarmed They sold us and delivered us bound to our foe, And the Gods of the Copybook Headings said: "Stick to the Devil you know." On the first Feminian Sandstones we were promised the Fuller Life (Which started by loving our neighbour and ended by loving his wife) Till our women had no more children and the men lost reason and faith, And the Gods of the Copybook Headings said: "The Wages of Sin is Death." In the Carboniferous Epoch we were promised abundance for all, By robbing selected Peter to pay for collective Paul; But, though we had plenty of money, there was nothing our money could buy, And the Gods of the Copybook Headings said: "If you don't work you die." Then the Gods of the Market tumbled, and their smooth-tongued wizards withdrew And the hearts of the meanest were humbled and began to believe it was true That All is not Gold that Glitters, and Two and Two make Four And the Gods of the Copybook Headings limped up to explain it once more. As it will be in the future, it was at the birth of Man There are only four things certain since Social Progress began. That the Dog returns to his Vomit and the Sow returns to her Mire, And the burnt Fool's bandaged finger goes wabbling back to the Fire; And that after this is accomplished, and the brave new world begins When all men are paid for existing and no man must pay for his sins, As surely as Water will wet us, as surely as Fire will burn, The Gods of the Copybook Headings with terror and slaughter return! |

Dolly Clothes

| So Dolly can play "Little House on the Prairie." |

| This cute little rosebud print also has a light pink pinafore. |
This elegant outfit is the result of the fabric not being wide enough for the skirt.
I added lace to the center piece and made the entire look much fancier.
The boots are made from black felt.

Field Trip with Grandma's Two Oldest Girls
Mr. Wonderful had received free tickets for us all to visit the Grizzly
Bear and Wolf Discovery Center in West Yellowstone. The girls had fun
seeing all the bears, live and carved, making penny souvenirs, and
checking out the tracks, den, and traps.

But we soon tired of the obvious agenda (see Crying Wolf) and decided to go home through Yellowstone National Park. The girls had never been before and enjoyed marking off their papers which animals and birds they saw. We stopped at Old Faithful to watch the famous geyser spout.

Titanic Resources
We are preparing to have "The Last Dinner" on the Titanic Saturday night to remember the 100 year anniversary of the tragedy.
We've asked family and friends to come as a person from the crew or passengers dressed in 1912 attire and to bring a dish for the menu.
Here are some sites for learning about the Titanic:
Vision Forum has several books, movies, and is hosting a special event in Missouri.
This site is the best we've found for biographies with links for everyone aboard the Titanic
Sense and Sensibility patterns has posted information about 1912 clothing.
There are many books available:
Walter Lord's A Night To Remember seems to be the standard. Vision Forum and Amazon both offer the movie of the book in DVD. There are survivor interviews included.
An unusual book I found through the library, that we using to create our dinner is, Last Dinner of the Titanic. It has the First Class, Second Class, and First Class' Restaurant Dinner Menus for Sunday, April 14, 1912. Most of the recipes are included. And tips for hosting a Titanic dinner.
If anyone else has resources, events, or ideas I'd love to hear!

Wanting to Travel
If I could choose anywhere to go this year…
I would choose to go to…
Well that is after going to see dear granddaughter #4. That is a given!
But the two are not so far apart that they couldn't be combined into one trip, perhaps. The problem would be said event is in summer and in Texas. Which means heat and humidity that this Rocky Mountain Grandma is not use to living with. And they both being over 1500 miles away, it takes a lot of time, we are talking days of driving. And that means Mr. Wonderful must take off days…weeks from work, which is not likely to happen.
So, if you get to go, please enjoy it for me and share what you learn!

Sewing Class-Gingham Dresses, Jacket Finished, and a Party!
The last day of sewing class for this Spring found the seamstresses working hard to finish their projects. Even though there were two little distractions hanging around.
The littlest dress finished.
Jacket to go with dress above.
The two larger dresses had ties at the waist for big bows in back!
And to celebrate we had 100% Whole-wheat Carrot Cake, Peanut Butter Rice Crispy Bars, French vanilla ice cream, and apple-raspberry punch.

Sewing Class-One Gingham Dress Finished
You are big stuff when you are two years old and you get to attend the "big girls" sewing class to model your dress so it can be hemmed!
Was a little girl ever thrilled with her new twirly dress!
And the seamstress poses with her…
Ready to put in the zipper on another of the gingham dresses
and then to hand-sew the lining in place.
This sweet "Dorcas" was fixing the hem on a little girls church dress. A quick fix using the serger.
Ready to wear!
