Feminine Appeal, chapter 3, The Blessings of Loving my Children

Mothering has mountaintops and valleys: the thrill of holding your newborn, the weariness of sitting with a critically ill child, the exhilaration of watching your child achieve, and the frustration of dealing with their weaknesses day after day. If our focus becomes the duties of the everyday and our emotions are allowed to dictate our perspective of motherhood we will easily become disheartened.

God’s mandate is for us to love these children everyday, all day. This requires sacrifice of all we are and a commitment that many will not understand. Yet, we need to do more than just do the duties. We need to be joyful. As we realize God is our only source for this monumental task’s requirements, that He has given us grace to undertake this grave responsibility, we will seek Him and find our strength and rest in His Word.
