Spending time with "Like-minded families"

In our Sunday School class we have been going through Vision Forum’s Entrepreneurial Bootcamp. (Click on title link to see.) Doug Phillips this week mentioned the importance of spending time with like-minded families. What do I mean by like-minded? People who believe as you do. Who God has called to similar commitments.

Thinking back to the early days of the modern homeschool movement in the 1980’s. Families who were choosing to home educate found strength and encouragement in linking together, whether it was as individual families, a local support group or at a state or national conference. We were not all at the same spot on the page, but we were all on the same page.

Many families choosing to home educate today do not take advantage of the strength and encouragement of linking with other like-minded families. They end up over-whelmed trying to do it all on their own, in their own strength, with no one to encourage them in their vision and goals, no one praying for their family’s education endeavors, not realizing that other homeschooling families share the same struggles and strive for similar success.

We need to bear one another’s burdens and rejoice with one another’s praises.
