There are several methods of obtaining purified water:
1. Buy purified. This will get expensive over time. Buying a bottle of purified water when traveling is probably feasible. But purchasing enough bottled purified water for a family's daily use is a costly choice.
2. Filter–filters work on the premise of taking out large particles that micro-organisms cling to. There really isn’t a way to filter out some microscopic contaminants. There are several varieties and costs vary widely. Choose the type of filter that will work for your tap water by reading your water report at www.epa.gov
3. Chemical–kills everything. Not a good permanent solution because there may be long-term side affects of the chemicals.
4. Boil–It takes 15 minutes of boiling at altitudes above 2000’. This is not efficient.
