Chapter 3: Embracing Your Sacred Calling
There is a question asked of home school moms who are within a year or two of graduating their last student, it is more revealing to me than the old socialization question, it is “What are you going to do with all your time?” These people really don’t have a clue of what a stay-at-home wife and mom do all day. A home school mom does more than teach addition and read stories all day. She has a home to run, a husband and a family with needs.
Many of these people imply in their question, “Now that you’ve sacrificed all those years to your children, what are you going to do for yourself and to really impact society?” The years were not sacrificed they were simply spent trying to obey God. I’m not any closer to perfection than others. Obeying God is not easy for this sinner I failed many times. Thankfully God is always faithful and we see this in the fruit of our children’s lives.
I love the exponential impact we have through our sons. We have four sons currently the oldest has his own construction business and leads a small group Bible study; our second son serves at a ministry in Texas; our third son has his own horseshoeing business and helps with the church youth and sound system, and is Director of the TnT Awana club; and our fourth son works for a fencing company except in winter, he has a woodworking business, helps with the church youth and sound system, is Director of the Sparks Awana Club, and helps with Cowboy Church. How in the world would I even have enough hours in my day to do all that, let alone be in more than one place at a time?
