Canning Dried Beans

I am the world’s worse at cooking beans. They are either crunchy or mushy. Not to mention I don’t think to soak the beans the night before! So, I was always reaching for a store-bought can of beans until a friend explained to me how easy it is to can beans. Wow! They have to be the easiest thing in the world to can.

Sterilize your canning jars and lids. Wash your beans in running water. Prep your pressure canner according the manufacturer’s instructions.

Fill hot quart jars with 1 cup dried beans or hot pint jars with 1/2 cup dried beans. Add boiling water leaving 1” headspace. Adjust lids. Process jars according to your canner’s instructions and for your altitude. 90 minutes for quarts and 75 minutes for pints.

I was able to buy a bag of chemical-free pinto beans with my wheat order from Wheat Montana. Now, I don’t feel guilty about grabbing canned beans. They are chemical-free and ready to go into the pot!
