Mother's Day Tea

(Links are in a different color)

Last Friday, thirty ladies and girls gathered at my house for a Luncheon Tea Party to celebrate Mother's Day. I sent invitations to the girls asking them to bring their mother, grandmother if possible, and to come prepared to share a poem, reading or verse to honor their mother. My daughter-in-laws that live nearby came and helped with a craft project for the girls under 5 years old and a Calligraphy Class for the school age ladies. My daughter-in-law that lives far, far away helped me perfect the Scone recipes and provided the Lemon Curd and Mock Devonshire Cream recipes.

We began with a get-acquainted game–

Then each of the "school-age" girls shared something to honor her mom. Some wrote a poem or read one they had found, one shared a Scripture, and one shared a book.

When the girls were done we proceeded to the food (the scones were cooking while the girls were sharing):

French Croissant Sandwiches–smoked ham, grilled chicken, Denver egg scramble
Peanut Butter & Jelly Sandwiches
Cream Scones & Berry–Chocolate Chunk Scones with
Mock Devonshire Cream
Lemon Curd
Whipped Butter
Strawberry Jam
Veggies with Yogurt Cheese Dip
Green Salad with Balsamic Vinegar Dressing

Desserts:
Creme filled Carrot Cake
Carrot Cake cupcakes
Strawberries with Sweetened Whip Cream
Apple Turnovers
Chocolate Chip Banana Bread

The young ladies served Black Tea or herbal teas with honey, sugar cubes, and half & half. There was also a punch bowl with Raspberry-Lemonade and a pitcher of water with lime slices.

We used plastic plates and "glasses." But real silverware, cups and saucers, and cloth napkins.

For an appetizer there was dried peaches and cherries, fresh apple slices, and smoked gouda cheese.

Rather than try to set-up enough dining tables, we ate at small tables scattered in groups throughout the Living Room. The littlest girls sat on pillows on the floor at a covered picnic bench "table." (Like princesses!) Each table had a dish of lemon wedges and a small plate to dispose tea bags on.

After eating the older girls had their Calligraphy session–

And the girls 5 and under stamped Tea Towels–were they ever excited to have a craft and so proud of their pretty tea towel with pink, purple, and blue flowers!

They also had time to play with the Noble Rose Paper Dolls on the refrigerator!
